A Discussion on the Events Surrounding Cheney’s Use of a Shotgun to Fire a Group of 1/8 Diameter Lead Projectiles into Wittington, and Wound Him in the Heart.

Spektre: This Hunting accident IS a serious matter. The Hunt itself was illegal, as Cheney did not get the proper permit, and then Cheney shot a human being with a gun, of which he had not received a legal permit to use during the hunt. So, use of an illegal firearm, during the shooting of an innocent person, well, this is graver then people are acknowledging.

Doss: Spektre, Of course it (the gun slinging) is gravely serious. Had this been Gore, Kerry, or Clinton, the Rightwingers would be demanding a federal investigation.

Cavu: Doss, no they wouldn't. Anyone who's ever handled a shotgun knows the terms ''sprayed'' and ''peppered'' are in common usage.

Doss: Cavu, he wasn't (just) ''peppered.'' He wasn't ''salted.'' He wasn't ''sprayed,'' ''marinated,'' ''rubbed with spices,'' or ''lightly dusted.'' He was fucking SHOT!

Vanax: Cavu, “sprayed” evokes water droplets; “Peppered” suggests spices. “Dusted” calls to mind a light sprinkling, all euphemisms intended to lessen the impact that Wittington was shot with a clump of approx. 250, heavy lead projectiles 1/8th inch in diameter. Such a projectiles can perforate the skin, penetrate through a chest, and pierce the heart. This is a serious weapon that can do serious damage and produce grave wounds, and this is exactly what happened. It is no surprise, therefore, that the county in which they were lobbying each other with guns demands a permit for such weapons.

Vanax: Spek, Cheney shot Wittington on Katherine Armstrong’s ranch property. Who is Armstrong and what is her relationship to all of the participants

The same question for Wittington. I believe that Wittington is a lawyer either for Halliburton or for KB&R. What kind of covert deal were Cheney and Wittington discussing? The WH spin machine and Cheney are blaming Wittington for getting shot when Cheney was at fault all the way.

Cavu: Doss, so where’s your proof that she's covering for Cheney? I predict you'll continue to dance and not show your proof.

Doss: Cavu, her dissembling language indicates the pains Mary Matalin took to try to downplay the seriousness of Cheney's gunning down of Whittington.

Doss: Cavu, here is a quote from a respected newspaper on the day Cheney did the shooting: “The vice president was concerned,'' said Mary Matalin, a Cheney adviser (and spin mistress) who spoke with him yesterday morning. ''He felt badly, obviously. On the other hand, he was not careless or incautious or violate any of the [rules]. He didn't do anything he wasn't supposed to do.”

Doss: Cavu, does it mean that Matalin believes Cheney was SUPPOSED to shoot Whittington?” Cheney in fact DID gun down Whittington. No amount of arm waving or gum-flapping will change that.

Vanax: Doss, “gum-flapping?” That would be foodless, non-vocal mastication. *S*

Cavu, Imzadi, this is being blown all out of proportion.

Imzadi: Cavu, It’s not being “blown out of proportion.” Hey, payback's a bitch ya know. If it had been Kerry or Clinton, the right-wingers would have been doing this plus.

Doss: Cavu, it is not being blown out of proportion in this case where the gunslinging lands the victim in ICU. That, my friend, is a SHOOTING. Not a ''spraying'' or a ''peppering.''

Imzadi: Doss, if this had happened with just a couple of Joe Blows it would be nothing. Except the sheriff would have interviewed the shooter on the spot and smelled for alcohol. But Cheney is not a Joe Blow. He is a war criminal.

Spektre: Vanax, Rightwingers are trying to make it sound like Cheney hit his pal with a water gun or something. Cheney is in favor of torture. I wonder why he doesn't just take the birds out of the cage and pull off their legs then pull off their wings and then pull off their tails while he drools and salivates and gets a woodie doing it

Vanax: Cavu, Doss has a good reason to be suspicious of how Cheney and Matlin are framing the incident. Anyone with a smidgeon of intelligence and a kernel of memory knows that Cheney has said that Saddam was in cahoots with Laden, that Iraq had WMDs, that it's reconstituting WMDs, then that it had aluminum tubes for WMDs, and that Saddam sought yellow cake from Niger, all lies. This is his track record and there is no compelling reason to make us think that he will stop lying. So, until we see a change, we continue to think he lies, and pathologically. If I were Cheney, I would continue to lie profusely about this as that is my MO. Anything less would make me look like I were telling the truth. *S*

Vanax: Spek, Hunting without a permit is a crime so Cheney is a criminal. I want to see him in court. I would love for him to get prosecuted for this small crime compared to his war crimes, for killing thousands, and for which he has not been prosecuted, worse, rewarded. It would be comparable to getting a killer, psychotic Mafia boss for the relatively minor offense of tax evasion. I hope it goes down just like this. *S*

Cavu: Jeez Imzadi! You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Imzadi: Cavu, and why not? Rightwingers like you put Clinton on trial just for getting a blowjob and lying about it. By contrast, this is serious people. Cheney broke the law and THEN shot a man. This is VERY serious

Gemini: Vanax, According to the Dallas Morning News, “Vice President Dick Cheney was hunting illegally.'' If they could get Clinton for getting a blowjob, they can at least get Cheney for hunting illegally.

Vanax: Gemini, certainly a blowjob between two consenting adults is less serious than a shooting between two non-consenting adults. For the former, the whole Congress was the prosecutor while, for the latter, the Congress as a whole just continues to dump huge sums of taxpayer money into Cheney's Halliburton account. *S*

Zadi, I wish that the WH press crew were as hot and bothered over Cheney’s, Powell’s, Rice’s, and Bush’s lies over WMDs, as they are over this domestic shooting. *S*

Doss: Was Cheney drunk off his ass during this accident? We don't know yet. Was Bush drunk off his ass during the pretzel strangulation episode? We still don't know.

Vanax: We do know that many of Cheney’s previous claims about nearly everything have been found to be lies. From WMD in Iraq, to Libby not being involved in outing of Valerie Plame, Yellow Cake...all these and more were lies. Only Right Wingers would think shooting somebody was somehow less of a crime then a blowjob!! Rightwinger Cheney admits to having a beer while on the hunt, but drunks often lie about how much they drink, or maybe they are so liquored up that they forget, and because he is a proven liar, he may have also lied about the one beer. For all we know, he was plastered when he shot Wittington, which would account for his delay in reporting his shooting.

Cavu: Vanax, you are getting all hot and bothered over a simple accident. You are off your rocker.

Vanax, Cavu, You are defending the Vice President’s tardy and deceitful behavior? Why am I not surprised that a Rightwing warmonger like you is defending a Rightwinger warmonger like Cheney? I wish that the WH press crew were as hot and bothered over Cheney’s lies about WMDs as they are over this domestic shooting. *S*

Gemini: Vanax, why develop a simple, backwoods accident into a conspiracy theory?

Vanax: Gemini, with this crew in the WH, the wildest theories are coming true. This is the track record. This means that any present wild-sounding theory about the WH’s bad behavior is also likely to ether be true or to become true.

The press and the police were kept in the dark for almost 24 hours after the shooting. Why? Was it just typical, Cheney-esque, knee-jerk secrecy or did the VP need time to sober up?”

Gemini: “A Breathalyzer test is mandatory in most states following an accidental shooting, but it would be rendered meaningless if it were administered so long after the incident. Similarly, it’s not uncommon for a hit-and-run driver to turn himself/herself in to the police 24 hours after the incident to avoid additional alcohol related charges. Cheney has two DUIs on his record and still has the reputation around DC as a heavy drinker.''

Vanax: Gemini, Cheney sounds like a sleazeball: He is a drunk, a criminal, and pathologically secretive. And this is just while in the US. *S* Makes one wonder what other, perhaps worse, sleazeball activities, (besides sanctioning the shooting of other civilians in such countries as Iraq) he engages in while in another country under the pretense of promoting democracy. *S*

Spektre: Doss, Cheney needs to step down. He was as well on yet another ''hunting trip'' when Katrina happened. These two incidents clearly indicate a pattern of incompetence.

Vanax: Spek, yeah, Cheney should just quit going on hunting trips and pay attention to doing his job properly.

Spektre: Vanax, it's disturbing that even after the mayhem and blood letting in he caused in Iraq, that it still does not satiate Cheney's thirst for bloodletting. He continues to take extensive trips (the most recent in violation of Texas state law) to shoot birds released from pens. Shooting birds from pens is not hunting: It’s senseless slaughter of helpless animals.

Doss: Spektre, if you or I called our local police and told them ''hey, there has been a accidental shooting at my location'', do you think we would see a law enforcement person soon (as in an hour or two at most) or would they say ''thanks for the call...we will swing by TOMMOROW perhaps''? Sheriff’s deputy was ''turned away'' when he showed up to try to invesigate.

Cavu: Doss, the way the press acted today is exactly the reason they were kept out of the loop.

Vanax: Cavu, and just how do you think was the press acting today? You mean they wanted to know the facts that transpired and why Cheney stalled the investigation by the press? Or do you mean the intensity with which the press grilled Bush’s ignorant press secretary who pretended he had no answers about the shooting?

Vanax: Cavu, Hint: The WH and Cheney keep the press out of the loop because they regard the press as a despicable special interest group. They patronize only the genuinely despicable special interest groups that donate to their PACs or bank accounts and, in return, they give special interest contracts to their despicably favored lobbyists.
